The Best Day Index ranks fifty major travel destinations by today's Weather Score, a 0-100 composite built from temperature comfort (40 percent), rain risk (30 percent), wind (20 percent) and the WMO weather code (10 percent). Every city in the index receives one of three verdicts rather than a wall of numbers: Go for scores of 72 and above with no blocking weather code, Wait for scores between 55 and 71 or a decent score paired with rain, and Skip for anything below 55 or with active rain, showers or thunderstorms. Rain, shower and thunderstorm codes act as absolute blocks, so a wet day can never be labelled a Go regardless of how mild the temperature is. Scores are recalculated on every page load from the latest Open-Meteo forecast run, which blends the ECMWF, GFS and ICON models, so the ranking shifts through the day as new model runs land. The index covers Europe, North America, Asia, Oceania, Africa and South America, and can be filtered by region so you can compare like with like — a 21 degree stable day in Lisbon against a 34 degree day in Dubai with a high afternoon storm probability. That comparison is the point: the index rewards conditions you can plan around, not peak temperature. Each city name links through to its own Best Day page with a full fourteen-day ranked forecast, activity-specific verdicts for hiking, beach, photography and sightseeing, sunrise and sunset times, and a forecast confidence meter that shows how much weight to give days further out. Nothing in the index is hand-curated, sponsored or weighted toward any destination.
Scores are capped by dealbreakers — heavy rain, dangerous wind, thick fog or hazardous UV pull a day down no matter how pleasant the rest of the numbers look.
