Every time is calculated for the destination's own timezone, not your device clock, which is the single most common error in sunset lookups. Each city page also shows total daylight length, how much the day has changed since yesterday, and the cloud forecast for the sunset window — because the time is only half the answer when you are deciding whether the sunset is worth walking to.
Most phone widgets compute sunset for your current location and show it in your device timezone. If you are planning ahead for somewhere else, that is the wrong answer twice over. Every time on these pages is computed from the destination's latitude, longitude and elevation, then rendered in that destination's own local time, including daylight saving. Sunset is defined as the moment the upper edge of the solar disc touches the horizon at sea level, with standard atmospheric refraction applied.
Civil twilight runs until the sun is 6° below the horizon and is bright enough to walk, drive and shoot handheld. Nautical twilight (6–12°) is the deep blue window; astronomical twilight (12–18°) is when the last skyglow drains and stars become photographable. Near the poles in summer these bands never complete, which is why some destinations show continuous twilight rather than a hard sunset-to-dark transition.

Usable light lasts through civil twilight, which is roughly 20–35 minutes after sunset in the tropics, 30–60 minutes at mid-latitudes, and can last for hours above about 55° latitude in summer. Each city page gives the exact figure for today.
The rate of change depends on latitude and the time of year. Near the solstices the daily shift is under a minute, while near the equinoxes mid-latitude cities can gain or lose three to four minutes a day. Every city page shows the day-over-day change.
Scores are capped by dealbreakers — heavy rain, dangerous wind, thick fog or hazardous UV pull a day down no matter how pleasant the rest of the numbers look.
